Director
Dan is the CEO of Office Information Systems in
Oakland, California. His firm provides IT management consulting and network
support for a variety of organizations and businesses in the Bay Area, including
nonprofits, legal service providers, school districts, and small
businesses. Celebrating its 25th year, OIS enables a
wide variety of organizations to implement their mission with technological
solutions.
Dan first became involved with AMIGOS
in 1997 when his daughter announced her intention to become a volunteer,
and his first response was, "You have no time!" She thankfully ignored him and
went on to experiences in Costa Rica and Honduras, and later his son volunteered
in Nicaragua and Costa Rica.
Dan has been involved in AMIGOS
chapter assistance and technology planning and implementation and
currently serves on the Development Committee. In addition to serving on the
International Board, Dan is active with the East Bay Chapter of AMIGOS. With his wife Mila he participated in
two AMIGOS board trips, to Paraguay and
Costa Rica.
Dan grew up in Fresno, California, with a BA from U.C. Santa Cruz and an
MA from the University of West Virginia. He lived in Indonesia for one year as
an exchange student after high school, and after college volunteered two and
one-half years in the Philippines through Volunteers in Asia. He says, "My
credibility shot way up in my role as appropriate technology volunteer when I
started building Lorena stoves, and for that I very much appreciate the hands-on
and immersive nature of the AMIGOS
volunteer experience."
