Doug became involved in AMIGOS though his daughter, Rebeca, in 1995 when she was a junior in high school. Beca subsequently went to Ecuador as a volunteer, to Honduras as a Project Supervisor, and to Nicaragua as a Project Director. Sandwiched in the middle were two years as Chapter Administrator at the AMIGOS International Office. She is currently Assistant Director for Overseas Studies at Lewis & Clark University, where she graduated in 2000.
Doug and his wife, Peg, were Co-Chapter Presidents of the North Chicago Chapter from 1997 to 1999. He briefly retired from AMIGOS, but returned as Chapter Representative to the International Board of Directors in 2003.
Doug's education consists of a BA from Merrimack College in North Andover, MA (where he met his wife) and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He has been involved in the packaging business since graduating from college. Doug is still active in his company, International Packing Specialists.
Doug's wife is employed by Northwestern University, testing for learning disabilities. She received a Ph.D. from Northwestern in 1994. She had previously received an MA from Boston University in Teaching of the Deaf. She practiced that profession in Mexico where we lived from 1965 to 1984. Doug and Peg''s four children were born in Mexico City.
