Kate was born and raised in Denver, Colorado and graduated from Regis University in 2005 with a B.A. in Sociology and Spanish. She has traveled all around the world to seek out opportunities to become involved in the global movement for peace and justice. Kate had the honor of participating as a delegate at the World Social Forum in Porto Alegre, Brazil and Mumbai, India.

Before joining the AMIGOS professional staff, Kate taught Conflict and Anger Management classes to at-risk urban youth in Denver at the Conflict Center. She also tutored newly arrived refugees at the New Comer’s Center and served as a life skills mentor to undocumented immigrants from Latin America in the Denver Public School system. Colombia tops the charts as the most exciting country that Kate has ventured to, naming the Cachacos and the Costeños the most incredible people that she has had the pleasure of befriending. She loves to learn the typical dances of the countries that she visits; which includes the Dominican Bachata, the Paraguayan Polka, the Costa Rican Cumbia, the Brazilian Samba, and of course Vallenato from Colombia.

Kate has a long AMIGOS history, including the following:

2002: Volunteer, Dominican Republic

2004: Project Supervisor, Costa Rica

2005: Senior Project Supervisor, Paraguay

2006: Project Director, Panama

AMIGOS Voices

“I came out of my volunteer experience with much more independence and self-sufficiency that I had before, a much richer perspective of the world, a deeper appreciation for empowerment (both of myself and of others), and an unwavering desire to make my life a life of serving others the best I know how.”
