After AMIGOS Volunteers return from their summer abroad, they are considered alumni, formerly referred to as Veteran Volunteers. Since 1965, AMIGOS has built a network of over 24,000 alumni. The parents of Voluneteers are often so involved in their preparation and training, we consider them part of the AMIGOS alumni family as well!

AMIGOS intends to continuously engage Alumni in our mission of youth leadership, community development, and cultural exchange.

Youth Leadership

After Volunteering, alumni may apply to be Project Supervisors, Senior Project Supervisors, Associate Project Directors, and Project Directors.

After demonstrating leadership as Project Staff, Alumni become eligible for AMIGOS' Mentor Program, which enables them to build meaningful relationships with more experienced alumni who share professional and personal insight with the goal of further developing "youth leaders" into simply, leaders.

Community Development

Alumni leave their summer projects more dedicated to community development than ever. Our programs develop young leaders who are inspired to a lifetime of community engagement.  This begins with service-learning projects in training, continues during the summer Volunteer experience, and results in our alumni becoming leaders within their home communities.

Cultural Exchange

To keep Alumni engaged in the mission, we invite Alumni to travel on trips coordinated by AMIGOS. In 2010, a group of 11 AMIGOS alumni, family and friends travelled to Yucatán, Mexico to learn about Mayan history and Yucatec culture; as well as to work with youth to serve their community.
