The AMIGOS Approach
AMIGOS' approach to partnerships is one of alliance, collaboration and cooperation.
We collaborate with local agencies to determine the focus, location and size of projects. They have insight into local community interests, health, safety and the potential for successful outcomes. These alliances are critical to the creation, success and sustainability of our programs.
Our approach to youth leadership is based on high levels of responsibility and empowerment.
Volunteers take initiative in their communities, often meeting with community leaders and organizing community-wide meetings. After one summer, select Volunteers can take the next step on our leadership ladder by overseeing Volunteers as a Project Supervisor and subsequently, managing Supervisors as a Project Director.
Our approach to cross-cultural exchange is one of respect, sensitivity and sharing.
Volunteers are guests in the homes of host families in small communities. While Volunteers expect to be exposed to new traditions and values, the effect it has on them is often more profound than anticipated.
