AMIGOS Organizational Structure
In The United States
AMIGOS International Office (IO) or headquarters is in Houston, TX. IO is home to our team of year-round, full-time International Office Staff, who carry out the organization's daily operations.
AMIGOS has more than two dozen chapters across the United States. Each chapter is an independent 501(c)(3) goverened by its own board of directors, comprised almost exclusively of volunteers. The chapters recruit and train Volunteers in their local communities. Applicants who live outside of a chapter city can participate in AMIGOS through our Correspondent Volunteer Department.
In 2003, the Foundation for Amigos de las Americas, another seperate 501(c)(3), was founded to provide support to AMIGOS' mission.
In Latin America
In each country where AMIGOS works, Volunteers are supervised and supported during their summer experience by in-country Project Staff. The Project Staff members are all bright, capable young men and women who originally participated as AMIGOS Volunteers and who are now rising through the AMIGOS leadership ladder.
The Project Staff is supervised by full-time International Office Staff and supported by a 24-hour Emergency On-Call System which includes doctors and mental health professionals.
AMIGOS’ service projects in Latin America are conducted in close collaboration with international, national, and local partner agencies. These alliances are critical to the success, sustainability, and usefulness of our programs.
