AMIGOS was founded on the principle that young people can change the world. The Colorado Chapter of Amigos de las Américas recruits and trains teens and young adults from the Denver metro area to design and lead projects in collaboration with parter organizations across Latin America. We seek to create a world in which young people realize their full potential as leaders and global citizens.
The Colorado Chapter is one of 26 nationwide chapters of AMIGOS. Each fall, we invite qualified high school and college students (who are at least 16 years old by December 31st of the year of volunteer service) to join our training program, where we prepare them to be critically engaged leaders in Latin America.
Our participants spend the summer working with peer to lead community development projects in areas such as public health, youth engagement, or environmental sustainability. You get to live like a local, not a tourist, in a new culture. During the program you live with one or two other participants in a host community. The AMIGOS Summer Program gives you the skills that you need to rise to the challenge of traveling to new places and managing projects. There are many ways to see the world, but there is only one way to truly experience it!
