Community Development Service Placement

AMIGOS is highly respected for its community-focused programs and hard-working volunteers.  This has led to long-standing partnerships with Latin American agencies and host communities that ensure the sustainability of our projects. As a Gap Year participant, you will be matched with a service placement at a community development agency based on your personal preferences and the needs of our partner agencies. The focus of your service placement could range from women's rights at ADIC, to working with rural youth at Plan International, to bulding stronger communities with Mpowering People. You will collaborate with your new network to identify, plan, and carry out a service project based on your unique community.

  • Plan International strives to achieve lasting improvements in the quality of life of deprived children in developing countries , through a process that unites people across cultures and adds meaning and value to their lives.

  • Empowerment International strives to break the cycle of poverty before it is transferred to yet another generation, by building more educated and productive communities.

  • Fondo Centroamericano de Mujeres (FCAM) mobilizes resources to nurture grassroots women’s organizations in Central America working to guarantee women’s rights to physical and emotional integrity, economic justice and to participate as leaders in making decisions that affect their lives and communities.

  • FUMDEC strives to empower other women and create tools, resources, and skills in order to generate collaborative community development.

  •  ADIC works in rural and semi-urban communities in Matagalpa to develop collaborative community development  through diverse initiatives and projects.

  • Fabretto strives to support, promote, and strengthen children's education, formal and occupational, in order to break the poverty cycle and decrease the extreme poverty rate in Nicaragua.

  • ADM  strives to correct their own inefficiencies and utilize the efficiencies and resources they already have available with improved rationale, eficiency, and productivity while minimizing the current poverty condition in under developed communites.

  • mPoweringpeople  strives to give street children in Nicaragua a future without poverty, violence, prostitution or drugs.

Because of the sensitive nature of some of these service placements, some partner organizations will require an additional screening, background check or application to participate.
