Requesting Support for Improvement of the Road to El Ocote: Construction of Two Drainage Systems

Location: Matagalpa, Nicaragua

Amount Needed: $1500 USD

Summary:

This proposed project consists of the construction of 2 alcantarillas (drainage pipes) on the road to El Ocote, which is very undeveloped. There is a pending project with the local government improve the road, but the project lacks funds to install what were described by the government engineer as “critical” drainage systems. This project would support a project the community is very passionate about completing, and continues to work on everyday despite the lack of funds. Community members realize the road is necessary for all possible future development of the community and so are willing to work hard and within Amigos’ parameters to collaborate with Amigos de las Americas and complete this project. 

This project is vital to the potential future development of this community. The community recognizes this concern, which is why this project to improve the road is so important to them and has been at the top of their priority list and they have been working towards this goal for the past two years. The proposal would also facilitate further collaboration with Amigos de las Americas. The improvement of the road would make the CALM Plan more effective during future collaboration with El Ocote (since they have already expressed interest in having volunteers next year).
