Cocle Bevil project
Full Narrative
What is the focus of the project?
Giving the youth or Chiguirí Abajo more safe space to study, learn, and meet.
How were the idea and plans for this project generated?
School leaders and members of the Padres de las Familias developed the idea, and then it was voted on and approved by the community.
Does the community support the project? If so, how are they demonstrating support?
They voted to approve the project, will be providing labor, and will support fundraising activities run by the youth of the community.
What is the timeline for implementing the project?
On 7/20 we will purchase supplies. They should arrive in community by 7/22. In the mean time fundraisers will be held to support labor on the project. 7/23 -7/25 will be spent cleaning the floor in preparation for cement and in preparing the room for the installation of the false roof. Cement will be poured and leveled on 7/26 and given a couple days to dry. On 7/29 the floor tiles can be laid and given time to dry as well. There will then be a couple days to install the false roof between 8/1 and 8/4. The supervisor will then carry out an evaluation the following week after volunteers leave.
Who will be involved in implementing the project?
The youth will be involved in fundraising and in organizing labor for the project. Adults in the community will be doing the labor. The Project Supervisor and the Volunteers will be working with the youth and adults to coordinate the overall effort.
What specific signs will indicate that this project has been successful? If you were to return in 1-2 years, what signs would you look for to show that this project has been successful in the long-term?
That the repaired rooms are still being used with the same frequency and that the floors and ceilings are being maintained.
Approximately how many and who are the intended beneficiaries?
There are approximately 700 people living in Chiguirí Abajo. The school is used for community meetings and events so this project could potentially directly benefit anyone in the community who participates in these. More direct beneficiaries will be the teachers and staff of the school who will have a more comfortable workspace and more of it, and students who will be less crowded and hot during the school day.
How will sustainability of this project be assured?
The principal of the school and the head of the Padres de las Familias will be entrusted to maintain the work done and oversee further fundraising efforts with the goal of completing the same repairs for the remaining two rooms.
How will success be measured for this project?
With an evaluation process when the project is complete that is designed to determine whether students are able to remain more focused because of less crowding and a cooler environment. We will also be able to determine if a greater amount of events are being held in the school.
