San Isidro Bevil Project
Requesting Support for Completion of Fogón (Healthy Stove) Construction
Location: San Isidro, San Pedro, Paraguay
Amount Needed: $490.63 USD
Amigos de las Americas has worked in San Isidro for four years and this year, the community wants to work together to complete construction of fogónes (healthy stoves). This will finally provide the community with equal access to fuel-efficient, environmentally friendly methods of cooking rather than cooking stooped over an open fire. This will also provide the community with a chance to demonstrate mutual support for equal access between families throughout the community.
Due to the widespread support of the project, fogón construction should be completed within a week of the arrival of the materials. Seven community members with experience and knowledge of fogón construction will assist in the construction of the stoves.
In order to guarantee the longevity of the stoves, all the families who receive stoves have agreed to construct shelters to protect the stoves from degradation. Following the construction of the stoves, all the families who receive stoves will be required to attend a charla on proper use and care of the stoves, both to ensure that families use in stoves in a way to protect the integrity of the stove itself, and to guarantee that families use stoves in a way that is sanitary and healthy for the lungs of household members.
If the project is successful, all families of the community will have both reduced wood consumption and exposure to smoke in the household.
Make an online donation here, and please specify San Pedro: Project 1 Bevil Grant in the comments section. Any funds raised above the $490.63 will go to funding other Bevil Grants unless otherwise specified. Thank you!
