About our Chapter:

The Houston Chapter of Amigos de las Américas is one of 26 nationwide chapters of AMIGOS. Each fall, we invite qualified high school and college students, 16 years and older, to join our training program, where we prepare them for a summer of service in Latin America.

Through its training program, the Houston Chapter prepares teens and young adults from Houston, TX and surrounding areas for full-immersion cultural exchange and community service projects in Latin America. We are seeking to inspire and build young leaders through collaborative community development and immersion in cross-cultural experiences.

Next summer our participants will be living with host families throughout Latin America.  They will be leading service projects developed in consultation with the local residents. The projects will range from health and hygiene programs for kids, to environmental and nutritional programs.

After training with the Houston Chapter, participants are ready to:
  • Live with host families in Latin American communities
  • Work in in teams of 2 or 3 to promote basic health and environmental education
  • Partner with local Latin American agencies, schools, clinics and communities
  • Bridge cultures through humanitarian service and by forming new friendships
