Unique to the Houston Chapter
There are a great many other things that the Houston Chapter is proud of. Here are a few:
Jenny Hicks Memorial Scholarships
Jennifer Leigh Hicks was a Volunteer in the Houston Chapter of Amigos de las Americas during 1996-1997. Jenny Hicks died on July 18, 1997 from injuries suffered in an automobile accident which occurred one week before she was to leave for the Dominican Republic.
Upon Jenny's untimely death, Mr. and Mrs. Hicks and her sister, Jessica, established the Jenny Hicks Scholarship Fund.
The Jenny Hicks Memorial Scholarship Award Plaque hangs in the Houston Chapter Amigos Office with awardees' names inscribed.

Corbett Bishop Memorial Scholarships
Corbett Bishop (March 19, 1971 - May 1, 2009) was an Amigos volunteer in the summers of 1986 and 1987 while attending Lamar High School in Houston. His first assignment was in the Dominican Republicand his second was in Ecuador. Upon his return that same summer, his family traveled to Africa with friends. Corbett fell in love with the place and returned on his own the following year, ultimately making it his permanent home and raising his children there.
Amigos established the Corbett Bishop Humanitarian Scholarship in the Spring of 2011 to assist a volunteer with a demonstrated need and who is committed in heart, body and mind to full participation in the program.
