Houston AMIGOS Alumni Event a Big Success

Alumni enjoy a silent action and pizza at the Houston alumni event at the International Office on March 14.

Houston (April 1, 2008) — More than 25 alumni and friends gathered for the Houston Alumni Reunion at the International Office in Houston on March 14. The event included the screening of "Outsourced" an independent film written by AMIGOS alumnus George Wing. George also wrote "50 First Dates" with Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler.

The event also included an auction with unique artisan items from Latin America. Attendees ate pizza and talked about their volunteer experiences.

Alumni Relations Manager Amy Becker said she enjoyed bringing so many excited alumni together.

“This event was close to my heart because I was a Houston chapter volunteer myself.  It was wonderful to reconnect with friends that I trained with and discover where life has taken them," Becker said. "I actually called all the volunteers from my two years (’93 and ’94) to encourage them to come to the reunion."

AMIGOS Voices

“My AMIGOS experience shaped and influenced my entire life. I can’t imagine what I would be like today without the exposure to the rest of the world that AMIGOS gave me. I’m sure that my choice of a health care profession was influenced by my AMIGOS experience.”
