The Chontales, Nicaragua project Volunteers have arrived and are ready to get started! The first three days in country were spent learning about PLAN’s projects in Chontales, getting to know each other and learning about their exciting new communities. Since their arrival, Volunteers have been enjoying the area’s “comida típica”: beans, rice, and cuajada (cheese). On June 20, the Volunteers participated in a youth encuentro involving youth from each of their communities. This gave Volunteers an opportunity to get to know some youth and a gain a insight to their communities before starting their summer with host families.
Volunteers will their spend first week meeting their families and community members, planning their projects and having a great time eating mangos and playing soccer! While they are not working hard on their projects, Volunteers are looking forward to practicing their Spanish and learning about the Nicaraguan culture. Staff and Volunteers of Chontales are looking forward to an unforgettable summer!
