Chontales Final Update

July 26, 2008

After a hot and successful summer in the Boaco and Chontales region of Nicaragua, Volunteers are finishing up their hard work on their community-based initiative projects and getting ready for their farewells.   Besides learning to make tortillas, dance to ranchera music and other things Nicaraguan, the Volunteers have organized libraries, painted murals, built fences around school yards, and constructed benches and soccer fields.

Volunteers and Staff are now taking a step back, along with Plan International, our partner agency, to reflect upon their summer and realize what a really great cultural exchange was established these past six weeks.   After saying their tear-full good-byes and packing up, the Volunteers will head off to the beautiful city of Granada for a couple of days of fun and project closing activities before heading back to their homes and families.

AMIGOS Voices

“AMIGOS has impacted my life, opening my eyes to a totally different world from that of suburban USA, and it has opened my mind to the infinite number of cultures that coexist on our planet. The energy involved with AMIGOS is quite possibly the most positive kind of energy that I have felt in any organization, be it academic or professional.”
