Guanajuato Final Update

July 30, 2008

Greetings from Guanajuato! Volunteers are hard at work in their communities, finishing up community-based initiatives and enjoying their last week “in the rancho.” Volunteers have collaborated successfully with their community counterparts to conceive of and finish a wide range of projects: garbage collection systems, bus stops, community gardens, murals, libraries, a gazebo, and a bridge, among others!  We’re very proud of all they’ve accomplished this summer.

Our Amigos will be leaving their beloved communities this coming Saturday. The week will be filled with ‘despedida’ parties and outings with host-families and friends. On Saturday, Volunteers will be gathering in their municipalities for a final goodbye from our partner agencies. From there, we will be taking buses two hours north to the city of Guanajuato for debriefing. There they will have the opportunity to explore the beautiful city and share stories with their fellow Volunteers before flying home on Monday.

AMIGOS Voices

“I believe the work AMIGOS Volunteers do in their host communities helps them become world citizens and helps them appreciate the role they can play in making the world a better place abroad, and also back home.”
