Partner Agencies - Costa Rica

Casa de la Juventud

Casa de la Juventud provides opportunities for Costa Rican youth to finish secondary education, learn technical skills, play on organized sports teams, and develop youth groups. AMIGOS Volunteers work closely with Casa Promotores, or development workers. The Promotores are high school-age leaders who are members of a broader youth network and who live in the host communities in which AMIGOS works.

Ministerio de Educación Pública Republica de Costa Rica

The Ministerio de Educación Pública is the government agency charged with organizing and overseeing public education in Costa Rica. AMIGOS Volunteers coordinate with the teachers and school officials in order to hold classes and summer camps for school-age children in host communities.

For more info about this agency, see the website.

National Parks of Costa Rica

AMIGOS will be partnering on the park-level with the Ministry of Environment and Energy of Costa Rica, the government agency responsible for overseeing management of national parks, during the January Term project.

AMIGOS Voices

“My partner and I soon changed from ‘the Americans’ to simply ‘Kalie and Amanda.’ We became the daughters and sisters of our host families, and normal residents in the community. For seven weeks, my life was entirely set apart from everything, and everyone, in the States; and never had my life felt fuller.”

–Kalie Gold, Veteran Volunteer
