Lempira, Honduras Mid-Term Report

Overall, the Lempira project’s Midterms were a resounding success. Our project held Midterms in five different municipalities in the department of Lempira in the form of “route picnics”.  All events took place on the date of July 19th, 2007, and each was headed by a member of Project Staff. While most Midterms were held at a local restaurant, one Supervisor spoke with the mayor in one of her communities who volunteered to host lunch at the municipal building, and the Volunteers there got the chance to interact with the local government. Volunteers at all Midterms had the opportunity to call their families and use the internet. They returned to their communities with renewed energy and motivation to continue working with local constituents on educational activities and get started on their community projects.

As another component of last week’s Midterms, Volunteers, Supervisors, partner agency members, and community leaders had the chance to evaluate the progress of the projects in participatory evaluations within each community.  Participants brainstormed successes of the projects thus far, as well as ideas for improvements and ways to make the most out of the Volunteers’ remaining weeks in community. Project Staff, Volunteers, and community members alike found that this was a helpful way to refocus project goals, reevaluate roles, and revitalize enthusiasm and participation.
