Volunteers entered into host communities after three jam-packed days of country-specific briefing. During this time, Volunteers stayed at a retreat center just outside the host city, Santiago, and covered the following topics: project goals, partnering agency relationships, health/safety procedures, workshop training and an introduction to Panamá’s culture and history.

Volunteers had the added benefit of interacting with Panamanian volunteers who will also be participating with AMIGOS this summer. Partnerships of volunteers also displayed confidence and optimism about their upcoming 8-weeks in Veraguas after being briefed about their communities with their Project Supervisors. Veraguas Senior Staff is excited about kicking the summer off on the right foot!

AMIGOS Voices

“Both our children left Houston as fun-loving, typical teenagers and returned from their AMIGOS experience with new-found confidence and maturity and a real sense of what life is like beyond our community.”
