Project Area:

The region of Limón runs spans between the borders of Panama and Nicaragua along the country’s Caribbean coastline. This area of the country receives the highest amount of rainfall, with peak of the rainy seasons falling between the months of May and August and between December and January. This region is also one of the most geographically diverse in the country; some highlights include lagoons, a beautiful coastline and mountains. The area is also home to the last remaining indigenous tribes in the country.

Project History:

2010 will mark AMIGOS’ twenty-ninth year working in Costa Rica. Over this time period, the projects have changed dramatically in response to Costa Rica’s relative successes in its economic, political, environmental, and health conditions.

In 2004 AMIGOS began a strong partnership with Casa de la Juventud (CASA), a non-profit organization that develops and implements youth leadership and community development programs throughout Costa Rica.  In 2010 AMIGOS will be partnering with Earth University in the region of Limón.

AMIGOS Voices

“After three summers with AMIGOS, I fell in love with Latin America and spent the majority of my professional career involved in either the US Hispanic community or directly in Latin America. AMIGOS ignited a desire to experience the world of other cultures.”
