David Baron, MD

Director
David Baron, MD

David was an AMIGOS Volunteer in the Dominican Republic in 1979 with the Ohio Chapter. This experience greatly influenced the rest of his personal life and career. After graduating Kent State University in 1981 he entered the Peace Corps and spent two and a half years in the Dominican Republic as a volunteer. He returned to the local Ohio AMIGOS Chapter after completing Peace Corps in 1983 and assisted in Spanish training for the 1984 summer volunteer group. After a year as a recruiter for the Peace Corps in the Denver region, he studied medicine at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio.

Upon completing medical school, David trained in internal medicine at The Cambridge Health Alliance in Cambridge, Massachusetts, attracted to the strong mission to the underserved and immigrant populations. He joined the medical staff following his internal medicine training and has been there ever since. As staff physician in a teaching practice David has the opportunity to teach and practice in a setting with patients from all over the world and a large portion of his patients are from Latin America. His special interests in medicine include patient safety and health care risk management, and he chairs the CHA Patient Safety Committee, as well as teaching residents and students in these fields.

David met his future wife in the Peace Corps who was also a Peace Corps volunteer, and they have three children including Sophie Baron who served as an AMIGOS Volunteer in Nicaragua through the Massachusetts chapter in 2009. His sister, Julia (Baron) Radwany and brother in law Steven (Skip) Radwany also served in AMIGOS through the Ohio Chapter in various roles and Central American countries in the 1970s.

David’s interests include his three children, ages teen through twenties, running and other outdoor sports and world travel. The family climbed Pico Duarte (over 10,000 feet) together in the Dominican Republic in 2009 — a goal David and Pamela had held since their Peace Corps days.
