Dorn was an AMIGOS Volunteer in Mexico in 1984 and 1985, a Project Supervisor in Ecuador in 1986, Project Director for Costa Rica in 1988 and Project Director in the Dominican Republic in 1989. He was also the Training Director of the Ohio Chapter of AMIGOS from 1987 to 1989. In 2005, Dorn reconnected with AMIGOS as a member of the Board of Directors. He graduated from Kent State University and holds an MBA from Thunderbird in International Business.  

In his professional career, Dorn spent over 8 years living and working throughout Latin America and the Caribbean with Chiquita Bananas. He has also lived and worked extensively throughout Europe, Africa and Asia. After many years of living abroad, in 2009, Dorn and his family moved to Los Angeles, CA.
