Ed Cazier credits Amigos de las Américas with saving him from a dissolute life spent surfing off southern California, and redirecting him to a meaningful career spent living and working around the world.

Ed learned about AMIGOS from a high school Spanish teacher in Los Angeles, and worked two summers as a Volunteer in Honduras (1976) and Ecuador (1977). During 1978, he was a project supervisor in the inaugural water well drilling project on the Caribbean coast of Honduras, and returned the following summer as Assistant Project Director. In 1981, Ed was the Project Director of the first AMIGOS project in Panamá. He was elected to the Board of Directors in 2003.

Cazier graduated from Colgate University in Hamilton, New York in 1981 with degrees in Geology and French Literature. This was followed by a master's degree in Geology from the University of Texas at Austin in 1984, and a mid-life MBA from Rice University in 2002.

From 1984 - 2008, Ed worked for BP in a series of technical and managerial roles in Alaska, Texas, Colombia, Venezuela and Russia. From 2008 to present, he has lived in Copenhagen, Denmark, where he works for Maersk Oil and conducts field development studies in Qatar, Kazakhstan, Norway and in other Maersk locations around the world.

While in AMIGOS, Ed met and (in spite of strict adherence to the AMIGOS standard of conduct) later married Suky Umaña Cazier of La Ceiba, Honduras. They have been married for over 24 years and have two children: María Isabella (Uruguay - 2007; Paraguay - 2010 Project Staff) and Brendan (Paraguay - 2009), both of whom wish to follow as nomadic a life as their parents.
