General Manager – Land
MHI Partnership, Ltd.
McGuyer Homebuilders, Inc.

Jim was introduced to AMIGOS in 2003 when his daughter Nicole, a junior, came home from school and announced she was going to South America. That summer Nicole fulfilled her dream by serving as a Volunteer in Isla Ka’a, Paraguay.

Jim’s wife Janet has been actively involved in AMIGOS for several years. His son Jimmy, has performed many hours of service work for AMIGOS over the years as well.

Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, Jim attended the University of Texas, earning his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1972. He has enjoyed a career in the land development industry, both as a consulting engineer and as a developer, responsible for securing entitlements and directing development for projects throughout the United States. For the last twelve years he has been the General Manager - Land for McGuyer Homebuilders, Inc., a major private homebuilder/developer. In this role he founded the land development division and is responsible for all land acquisition and development activities which have provided homesites for over 11,000 homeowners.

While establishing a new community in San Antonio, one of his development ventures acquired land which it offered to donate to the city to help secure a commitment from Texas A&M for a new university in San Antonio’s south side. Working with a passionate group of individuals from the public and private sector who were dedicated to bringing this dream to reality, Jim developed a new appreciation for the meaning of “community.” The diversity and cultural heritage of his hometown of San Antonio struck him and he wondered “why so late in life?” …He realized AMIGOS was the perfect organization to introduce young people to the global community and multicultural understanding and friendships.

Jim lives in Houston with his wife Janet, 18-year old son, Jimmy and 22-year old daughter, Nicole.
