Kate first fell in love with AMIGOS as a volunteer in the region of Barahona in the Dominican Republic (2002). She then climbed the AMIGOS leadership ladder participating as a Project Supervisor in Perez Zeledon, Costa Rica (2004), a Senior Project Supervisor in Paraguari, Paraguay (2005), and a Project Director in Veraguas Panama (2006). In the fall of 2006, she joined the professional staff at AMIGOS as the Regional Director for Mexico and the Dominican Republic. In 2008, Kate was promoted as Senior Regional Director of Nicaragua and Panama. She currently oversees AMIGOS projects in Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, and Costa Rica.
Kate was born and raised in Denver, Colorado and graduated from Regis University in 2005 with a B.A. in Sociology and Spanish. She has traveled all over the world seeking out opportunities to become involved in the global movement for social justice. Kate had the honor of participating as a delegate at the World Social Forum in both Porto Alegre, Brazil (2003) and Mumbai, India (2004). Before moving to Houston, Kate taught conflict and anger management classes to at-risk youth in the Denver Metro Area at the Conflict Center. Additionally, she also tutored newly arrived refugees at the New Comer’s Center and served as a life skills mentor to undocumented immigrants in the Denver Public School system.
In her spare time, Kate loves to travel. Some of her favorite destinations (outside of Latin America) include New Zealand, Namibia, South Africa, India, and Ireland. She is an avid photographer and videographer, famous for her jumping photos. Kate is also a cat fanatic and donates her time fostering kittens through the Feral Feline Retreat.
