Scott first learned about AMIGOS when his son, Christopher, became a Volunteer in Ecuador in 1987. Scott and his wife, Catherine, joined the Houston Chapter Board in 1988 and later he became President of the Houston Chapter. He later served as one of the Chapter Representatives to the International Board and was subsequently elected as an At-Large International Board Member. He served as Vice Chairman of the International Board but later resigned due to his relocation to London. While President of Shell Mexico, Scott provided support to the Latin American Programs staff by providing contacts, helping to resolve government and logistical challenges and by hosting AMIGOS staff at their home. In 2000, Catherine and Scott received an award from AMIGOS recognizing their years of service. Scott was re-elected to the International Board effective in 2010.  

Scott also serves on an Advisory Council for the U of Washington Chemical Engineering department and on the board of the Houston Shell Alumni association.  He is a past member of the NACME board, the Cornell and Colorado School of Mines Ch E advisory councils and is a past VP of ANIQ, the Mexican chemicals industrial society.  

Scott grew up in Tucson, Arizona and has a BS degree from U of Arizona and PhD degree from U of Washington, both in Chemical Engineering. He and Catherine reside in Houston, Texas where she is co-founder of the Rutherford BH Yates Museum. Their son Christopher resides in Scottsdale, Arizona where he is a computer network specialist.
