Thomas J. Edwards

Tom is a Vice President - Investments at Wells Fargo Advisors, LLC, Member SIPC in Houston, Texas. He helps clients with investment planning and 401(k) plans. Tom started in corporate banking with Chase Manhattan (now JP Morgan Chase) in New York immediately after graduate school. He subsequently worked for Marine Midland and its parent, HSBC. At these institutions he lent to energy industry and later managed corporate Pacific Rim business for West Coast multinationals from the Los Angeles office. Back in New York, he did debt for equity conversions for loans made to Latin American governments.
Tom has an MBA from the University of Chicago where he was treasurer of his class. He earned a BS in Foreign Service from Georgetown University. Prior to grad school, Tom was a Peace Corps volunteer in Paraguay where he taught in a high school, was involved in improving sanitation in his town and community school building, among a number of other projects.
During high school, Tom became aware of AMIGOS after its initial year in Honduras and volunteered in the office. The following summer he served on staff in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. The next year he was on staff in Comayagua, Honduras and in 1968 was Country Director of Guatemala.
Upon return to Houston in 1991, Tom became involved with Houston Chapter and joined the board in 1992 and subsequently served as president.
Tom has also been active with the Returned Peace Corps Volunteers in Houston where he has served on the local board and acted as treasurer. With other Peace Corps volunteers, he has helped on projects connected with the International fair, Habitat for Humanity and Earth Day, among others.
Tom recently returned from an incredible AMIGOS trip to Paraguay organized by Emily Untermeyer before she left AMIGOS as President in 2010. His son TJ accompanied him on his first trip back to his Peace Corps town.
Tom's wife Julie has been very supportive of AMIGOS. They have a married daughter who just started her medical residency. Their son works for a small aerospace engineering firm in Washington, D.C.
Annually, Tom rides a bicycle from Houston to Austin raising money for multiple sclerosis. He participates in a charity bicycle ride for The Kidney Trust in various parts of the United States. When not afflicted by tennis elbow, he plays with a local group.
