Volunteer with AMIGOS

"If you give young people responsibility, the chance to do great things,
they will always meet the challenge."

- Guy Bevil, Founder of AMIGOS, 1965

AMIGOS believes in the power of youth. We will give you the training and support you need to take ownership and  responsibility for your experience. You will live with a host family, working with a team of 2-3 Volunteers, immersing yourself in the language and culture of your Latin American host community for the summer, the semester, or the whole year.

With an elaborate system for safety and guidance supporting you, you and your partner(s) will have the opportunity to collaborate with your host community to develop a customized "Community-based Initiative" project (or CBI) that will address a unique need in your community: from painting a school to building a library to laying new pipes for a clean water system. In addition to the CBI, you will work with your community towards goals based on regionally determined themes such as Gardening in Costa Rica, Environmental Health in Costa Rica, or Media and Art in Nicaragua.
