Attendance Policy and Expectations

Your training in Amigos is crucial to your success in Latin America. It is therefore essential that you honor the attendance policy.  It is also expected that volunteers manage their own communications with the training director.

PLEASE REMEMBER OUR PRIMARY MODE OF COMMUNICATION IS EMAIL!

Sunday Trainings

We expect you will attend all trainings, including Spanish. You will need to let your trainer know of any absences 2 weeks prior to the absence, unless the absence is the result of unexpected urgent event or illness.  An absence is defined as not being present for any part of a training session.

  • You are allowed one absence with proper notice to trainer as defined above.
  • Second absence constitutes a warning.
  • Third absence you will need to write a letter to the AMIGOS Wisconsin Board explaining your absences, commitment to AMIGOS and why you should be allowed to continue to participate. The Board will review each case individually to determine eligibility to continue.
  • After an absence, the Volunteer is expected to turn in a one-page typed summary of the corresponding chapters in the Volunteer Handbook and/or Program Guide. The summary should be emailed to the training director by the Friday following the missed meeting.

Spanish Practice Trainings

You are required to attend a Spanish Class every Sunday of a regular training (you may choose either of the sessions offered), and

  • You are required to attend at least four conversation tables or
  • Meet expectations for individualized Spanish learning plan as decided between Training Director and Volunteer.

Service Learning

  • You are required to participate in an AMIGOS initiated service learning project
  • If you are unable to meet this requirement, you must complete an equivalent number of hours of service learning (including a written reflection) deemed reasonable by Training Director or Board

Retreats are mandatory.

Recruitment for new volunteers is expected for the following school year.

Parent(s) are expected to:

  • Attend Sunday Parent Meetings as indicated on the master calendar.
